Short Notice Cancellations
And Other Acts of Irresponsibility
(For Millennials and Students of Generation-Z)
Instructor’s Note:
If you are over 40, then this writing probably does not apply to you since your social skills and life experiences were obtained in an era without cell phones, laptop computers, and social media. Further, the importance of financial responsibility, dependability, effective communication, commitment, and family values were probably instilled into you ever since you were a child and you already understand the importance of these things in the workplace and in life.
For many Millennials and Generation-Z individuals however, their perspective on life is often shaped by social media, fake news, conspiracy propaganda, and a sense of entitlement drilled into them by their peers. As a result, many individuals from these younger generations will never reach their productivity potential simply because their perception of what is normal and/or acceptable behavior is simply not normal and not acceptable in the workplace. Accordingly, this writing is an attempt to instill some old-fashion values and ethical behavior into what may be expected of the younger generations once they move into advanced career positions of increased responsibility. Ready? Here we go…
As you know, academic success requires a commitment on behalf of both of us. My commitment is evidenced by a scheduling policy that gives each student the opportunity to enroll in a comprehensive learning program through a series of regular weekly appointments. There is however a responsibility on your part as well... simply to attend each and every scheduled appointment.***
So, please understand that if you have been lucky enough to secure one or more regular appointment times, please also understand that I have reserved those times exclusively for you. Therefore... Please be reminded that my scheduling policy requires payment for any and all appointments that are canceled on short-notice (less than 3 days advance notice) since it is usually impossible (and unprofessional) for me to schedule other students on short-notice to fill the gap. Also, short-notice cancellations severely disrupt my professional teaching day since I schedule only three appointments per day. I do understand that many short-notice cancellations occur for family emergencies, doctor's appointments, work commitments, and other good reasons... however, please be reminded that payment for appointments canceled on short-notice (less than 3 days advance notice) will be expected upon your next visit, or immediately by using Zelle.
As Skype is a highly-recommended alternative to cancelling a scheduled appointment on short notice, all students are encouraged to set up a Skype account so you may attend your appointment virtually whenever you are not able to attend your scheduled appointment in-person. And as a courteous reminder, when you schedule appointments with your doctor or dentist or a meeting at work, be sure to schedule them around our scheduled appointments. Please remember that I too am an established professional, just like your doctor or dentist and that I schedule only a limited number of appointments per day, and not 50 or 60 like your doctor or dentist. Consequently, my scheduling is not as flexible as theirs might be. Also, since I see each student promptly at their scheduled time, please be sure to arrive to each of your appointments just a few minutes early so our session can begin promptly as scheduled.

When a new student calls me for the first-time seeking help with their studies, seldom do they know what to expect. Indeed, it takes great courage for many students to pick up the phone and make the call. But the fact is… they did make the call and thus took the first step toward academic and/or professional success; and little do they know of the effectiveness in the way we achieve results. Only after they have been here a few times do they begin to truly understand how comprehensive and effective my teaching methods really are, and how my learning programs can genuinely help propel them to the top of their profession. As a teaching professional of many years, I have spent literally thousands of hours in preparing structured presentations and coursework for the various programs that I offer. As such, I have completely dedicated myself toward helping students achieve success by providing comprehensive learning programs which closely follow the outline of the course material through a series of regular weekly appointments.
But every once in a while, I still manage to recruit a student who does not fully understand and/or acknowledge the financial responsibility for each and every scheduled appointment, since by obtaining one or more regular appointment times, other students are excluded from obtaining those times. Accordingly, securing regular appointment times on my teaching schedule is a privilege that students must not risk losing by committing one or more of the following "Acts of Irresponsibility"…
- Not appearing for your scheduled appointment.
- Not calling to cancel a scheduled appointment.
- Canceling a scheduled appointment on short-notice (less than 3 days advance notice) and not paying for that cancelled appointment.
- Repeated scheduled appointment cancellations per month (with the exception of planned vacations) and not paying for those cancelled appointments.
- Failure to show up for a scheduled appointment accompanied by a complete lack of communication; both before and after the scheduled appointment.
Remember, payment is due for all appointments cancelled on short notice. You can either remit payment for the missed appointment during your next visit, or pay immediately at the time of the cancellation by using Zelle. Either way, communication of your payment intentions for missed appointments is essential.

When a student commits an "Act of Irresponsibility" by not remitting payment for cancelled appointments, they deny me of the opportunity to earn a living. They also commit a sin against the other students who would have otherwise been scheduled for that particular appointment time. As calls are constantly coming in from new students seeking help, when you reserve your place on my teaching schedule, you have indeed excluded others from obtaining those appointment times. As a reminder, I offer professional teaching services for the following two reasons…
1. To earn a living; teaching is what I do… It is my livelihood.
2. To give students an opportunity to achieve their academic and professional goals which in most cases, would not otherwise happen without my help.
It is therefore important for all students to understand that I am perhaps the only person in the entire South Florida area who does what I do, in the manner in which I do it, and with the effectiveness at which we achieve results. My reputation for teaching excellence is well known among both the academic and professional community alike Accordingly, students "compete" for their place on my teaching schedule and occasionally need to be reminded of their financial responsibility when enrolling in my programs. That is, the need to be here… on time, for each and every scheduled appointment, and to accept financial responsibility for appointments cancelled on short-notice (less than 3 days advance notice. Successful completion of the coursework, academic success, and retaining your place on my teaching schedule depends on it.
For most students already enrolled in my programs, you have undoubtedly discovered that I genuinely care about you and your success. Indeed, you won’t find too many people in life, professional or otherwise, who genuinely care about you and your prosperity. So, when you do encounter these rare individuals, you are well-advised to respect your relationships with them, and not commit any "Acts of Irresponsibility" that would otherwise jeopardize those relationships. My standards of teaching excellence require that I recruit only those students who, in my professional opinion, have the best chances of becoming among the best in their field. And if you are indeed one of these exceptional individuals, then you already realize that this writing is not directed toward yourself. You already understand all of what has been said and you are undoubtedly a responsible individual who will faithfully attend each and every scheduled appointment and graciously accept financial responsibility for all your scheduled appointments, including those appointments cancelled on short-notice.
And for those students who may become tempted to commit one or more "Acts of Irresponsibility" as outlined herein, those students risk jeopardizing perhaps one of the most beneficial relationships they will ever encounter during their lifetime. Because when a student commits an "Act of Irresponsibility" toward me and the programs that I offer, they are ultimately committing an "Act of Irresponsibility" against themselves. And as all of my current and former students know, I tend to "hand-pick" the students I choose to work with; and for each and every student on my regular teaching schedule, many others have been excluded. Just as you will ask questions and interview me at the onset, I will also interview you to ensure that we will be able to develop a certain professional friendship in a productive environment of learning which is based on an attitude of mutual caring and trust. Indeed, I genuinely care about the success of each and every student in my programs. Accordingly, if I have already expressed a sincere interest in you and your success, then cherish this relationship, and nurture it, and use it to develop yourself into the best individual you can possibly be. Make it a priority to faithfully attend each and every scheduled appointment and accept financial responsibility for all of your scheduled appointments and appointments cancelled on short notice. The personal and professional rewards forthcoming will eventually come back to you ten-fold and serve you well throughout the rest of your academic and professional life.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
